Taking the Lead for Children in Need!
Take the Lead 2020 supports the impactful work of Take the Lead NC, bringing the highly acclaimed Dancing Classrooms program to schools in our community. Dancing Classrooms delivers vital role-modeling of social and emotional skills, as well as the joy of dance, music, discipline and accomplishment, helping children engage in school and grow into healthy, productive members of the community.
Over the last 10 years, the acclaimed Dancing Classrooms program has grown steadily in Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County from a 2009 pilot in two schools, to classes in 30 area schools. As of 2020 Take the Lead North Carolina (TLNC) has served over 10,000 students locally with Dancing Classrooms. The residency is available to all elementary schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system. The majority of the schools currently served by TLNC are Title I schools which would not otherwise have this unique and transformative, arts-in- education, social-emotional growth opportunity.
Dancing Classrooms wraps the learning of life skills around ballroom dancing. Based in building civility, confidence, respect for others and self, teamwork and appreciation of cultural differences, the instruction is integrated in to the school day of 5th grade students, including special needs students. The program is changing the lives of students and enhancing their school environment from bolstering academic progress, physical fitness and motor skills, to reducing absenteeism and behavioral problems, to increasing the engagement of students and parents in the school community.
Take the Lead North Carolina (TLNC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
